Alexander Green is a significant figure in Russian literature. His heroes of such works as “The Shining World”, “Running along the Waves”, have a subtle soul and an individual outlook on the world. But truly the visiting card of the author was the work “Scarlet Sails”. It seems to me that almost every resident of our country and not only knows about this book. “Scarlet Sails” is now a source of inspiration for many sculptors, musicians and directors, because the number of works associated with the girl Assol and Captain Gray is quite large.
“Scarlet Sails” is a beautiful tale that everyone, if you really want to, has the most cherished dream come true (this is the main idea of the book). It is in this work that the fate of the heroes who create good and overcome difficulties is most clearly traced. The theme of the dream is the main one, and the main problems are misunderstanding coming from society, and loneliness.
The story begins with a description of the father of the main character - Longren, namely with his not very “rosy" fate. About how he lost his wife due to a bad man, he was forced to raise his only daughter, Assol, alone and in poverty. Once the misfortune happened to the culprit of his wife's death: he was carried off to the open sea, but Longren did nothing. Unfortunately, the society in which he lived with Assol turned away the “killer”, not recalling the loss with which this family lived. Despite the boycott and persecution, the sailor's daughter dreamed that one day the prince would take her on a ship with red sails. In this moment, we see the contrast between the deep and bright soul of Assol and the callous society, which lives without faith in a beautiful future. The author on this example teaches the reader that it is important to translate their dreams into reality, despite the slander of the people around them.
The next significant and contrasting character will be Arthur Gray. He is a rich, intelligent young man who grew up in an aristocratic society, but far from him, for he, like Assol, is a stranger in his habitat. He is a romantic, because he is attracted to the sea, freedom and ships, and therefore he understands the whole depth of the soul of Assol, not considering it strange. And the young man gives a miracle to a girl, in whom she faithfully believed throughout her life. He is inspired by the idea of a ship with red sails and creates it with his own hand. By his example, the author shows the moral of the whole work: it is not enough just to believe in miracles, you need to be able to embody them and give happiness to those who deserve it. Everything is in our power, and any dream is fulfilled.
“Scarlet Sails” is one of the most truly magical and soulful works in Russian literature. Alexander Green inspires us to be active in kindness towards people. From his book we can conclude: our life will be exactly the way we do it. And if it does not satisfy us, then the reason lies in our inaction or even counteraction to happiness.
