(363 words) In 1836, A.S. Pushkin wrote the novel "The Captain's Daughter." In this work, the author touched on many topics. One of them is the problem of honor and duty. Each of the characters depicted by the writer is a person with a set of certain character traits.
Peter Grinev embodies a person for whom the preservation of honor and dignity is one of the main priorities in life. The first impetus to becoming him as a person was given to him by his father before leaving for service. He explained to Peter that it was necessary "to keep the dress again, and honor to the youth." Since then, the young man made decisions, guided by the instructions of Andrei Petrovich. Being next to Pugachev, Grinev was not afraid that he would kill him for refusing to obey. On the contrary, Peter managed to ask the impostor not to demand from him that which is contrary to his honor and conscience. Grinev, as a self-respecting man, went to rescue his beloved from the hands of Shvabrin, who wanted to pass off the girl for himself without her consent. Peter wanted to protect her honor, since he himself is a noble youth.
Mop — the antipode of the protagonist. He, in turn, does not realize what a good person should do. The author almost immediately makes it clear to the reader that this hero will play the role of a negative character. Indeed, Alexei Ivanovich did a lot of terrible things that testify to his dishonor. The murder of a friend was the reason for his exile in Belogorsk fortress. But even there, the man continues to commit vile deeds. The slander against Maria Mironova speaks only of his rotten soul. These words were not enough for Shvabrin, so he wished to take possession of the girl by force. There can be no talk of any sincere feelings here. If he, like Peter Grinev, sincerely loved Masha, then he would not have done so to her.
The concept of debt to Alexei Shvabrin is also unknown. Realizing that he may lose his life, the man decides to go to the side of Pugachev. This act is a betrayal of the homeland, and this is almost the worst thing for a person who is obliged to serve in the name of its protection.
Thus, A.S. Pushkin deeply revealed the problem of honor and duty, contrasting Grinev and Shvabrin. The author showed Peter as the embodiment of the best human qualities: kindness, decency, courage, selflessness. And the writer portrayed Shvabrina as a weak personality. Alexei is not able to protect his own honor and dignity, not to mention helping other people. Fortunately, goodness prevails and people truly true to their word and duty find true happiness.
