On March 31, 2017, a new television series was released based on the novel by Jay Asher “13 Reasons Why.” The series includes thirteen episodes, and at least the same number of reasons to start watching.
- Target audience - teens and their parents. Let's start with a simple one. If you like TV shows where the main characters are teenagers, and everything connected with them, then “13 reasons why” is just for you. School problems are presented here in a completely new way, for sure, each of us has personally come across them. If you are interested in observing your own problems from the outside, and even understand how you need to, or, conversely, do not need to act in a particular situation, drive the first episode into the search and click on “play”.
- Quality adaptation of the bestseller. “13 Reasons Why” is an adaptation of Jay Asher’s novel, but who would have thought that it would turn out so high-quality and even more revealing characters ?! Tip: if you decide to familiarize yourself with the series, start with the book: surprisingly, this is the case when the cinema not only paid tribute to literature, but made it so spectacular that it even surpassed the book. Therefore, being fascinated by the text, enjoy the frames of the series. Really quite a decent adaptation came out.
- Actual plot. The plot tells the story of high school student Hannah Baker, who committed suicide. Before her death, Hannah recorded seven tapes on which she reveals 13 reasons for her act. The main character, her classmate Clay, is one of these reasons, and he must listen to all the tapes recorded by Hannah to understand what he is to blame for. The reason for watching this story is the current plot. Some people mistakenly believe that the series promotes suicide, shows how to cut the veins and that if something does not work out, the best way is to kill yourself, but the opposite is true. Yes, the series talks about terrible things that happen in life: suicide, violence, cruelty. But all this happens because people do not talk to each other, and are silent about their feelings, not doing anything. The book and its film adaptation demonstrate everything as it is, as happens in real life, and nothing of what is happening in the plot is romanticized.
- Topical issues. The series is actually not about suicide, but about how we behave in various situations. Having watched all the episodes, willy-nilly you understand that society is too fixated on itself, and each person may need help. People are selfish, and we ignore others, not assuming that they too can be bad. It is necessary to speak about problems arising in “13 reasons why”, and even so harshly that it dawns on everyone that it is necessary to be more attentive to others. “13 reasons why” shows that any little things are important, and if you are doing something bad, think about the fact that you are not alone, but little things tend to accumulate.
- The ambiguous image of the main character different interpretations of her act. The attitude of Hannah among the audience is still controversial. Discussions about whether she is a victim or just a girl requiring attention continue to this day. Someone believes that some of the reasons for Hannah Baker were invented by herself, but others are arguing vehemently that her life was simply ruined. It seems strange to many that suicide was absolutely Hannah - she is far from the only one with whom some “causes” occur, in certain cases these are ordinary school problems that everyone somehow experienced. Moreover, we are shown the life of her classmates, whose situation is even worse: they don’t get at school, their parents wanted to spit on them, their friends are not who they say they are, why is it Hannah? To formulate an opinion about Hannah Baker and to find out whether she was really morally killed, or if she took everything to heart too closely, you need to watch the series.
- Realistic heroes. The division of characters into strictly positive and negative in the past. In the series, there are real people who can do both good and bad deeds. Each of them can be hated, condemned and at the same time pity them, intercede for them. If you are used to the fact that cliched heroes correspond to their statuses (popular guys are cruel, and those who feel invisible are good), then in “13 Reasons Why” everything is different. Just like in life.
- Personal psychotherapy. If all the characters are realistic, you can recognize yourself in a particular hero. Unfortunately, we also commit such acts that offend others and hurt others. Sometimes we do not attach due importance to this, but after watching the series, you definitely begin to notice various things for yourself. The drama “13 Reasons Why” helps to look at life from a different angle, because every person periodically fears something, is silent about something, tries to save his reputation - each of us hides in these heroes, but these characters show us what sometimes our actions are worth it.
- High-quality and reputable film company. "13 Reasons Why" - the series of the American company Netflix, which managed to gain great prestige. Many moviegoers have long preferred Netflix to Hollywood, and high ratings speak for themselves. In addition, Netflix is releasing season series at a time, and for some it is a huge plus. No need to torture yourself in anticipation of the next episode, by the way, on May 18 the second season of the series comes out. The continuation of “13 Reasons Why” will also be released in thirteen episodes in one day.
- There is a source book. “13 reasons why” allows readers and viewers to look for differences between the book and its adaptation, which is always quite interesting. Some characters have their names changed, the sequence of cassette recipients in the series is slightly different than in the book, and the way the suicide of the main character changes. You can look for other differences yourself, having got acquainted with "13 reasons why".
- Original installation and spectacular visuals. It is hard not to notice how carefully the creators of the series approached the display of past and present events. Beautiful installation, interesting gluing add aesthetic pleasure. The visual effect is another message of the series, because the past, with the still alive Hannah Baker, is mounted in warm colors, and in the present blue and gray colors, colder, already prevail. Thus, we can understand how the departure from the life of one person affected all the other characters in the series.
- Disclosure of the psychology of adolescents. In addition to the advantages of form and content, the director of “13 Reasons Why” delves into the psychology of people with suicidal tendencies. This is also a kind of clue for real life: it is always very important to pay attention to what a person writes about, how he looks and what he does. Change of appearance is not always a desire for change, sometimes it is an alarming signal of danger. You can joke about as much as you like about “abandoned guy - made a square”, but when teenagers change their image, you need to watch them, and the series proves it.
- Instructions for Vigilant Parents. Based on the reasons mentioned above, it is important to note that the series is aimed not only at a teenage audience. “13 reasons why” is worth a look for adults - parents, for example. So they can better understand their children and how hard they are given to school years, that adolescents also have problems, and how much they can mean. As they say, warned - means armed.
- Intrigue. The final reason for viewing the "13 Reasons Why" is worth noting competently sustained intrigue. The series have such an effect - a desire to find out how it will end. The viewer sees that Clay, unlike many others, sincerely does not understand how he ended up on these tapes, so the reason why Hannah accuses him is not clear. When it finally clears up, a new question arises: what will happen next?
