It is not so easy to single out the main thing from any work, especially from a comedy written in verse. That is why a very brief summary of Griboedov’s play “Woe from Wit” for your reader’s diary is sure to come in handy. Also be sure to read comedy analysis for writing a great review.
(350 words) Lisa works as a maid in the Famusovs' house. Early in the morning, she knocks on the room of her young lady, Sophia, who sat until dawn with her chosen one, Molchalin (her father’s poor secretary) and now does not want to open the door.
Pavel Famusov, Sophia's father, begins to flirt with the maid Lisa, until no one sees this. The girl barely fights off and the master leaves, fearing that someone will hear them.
Molchalin, working as the secretary of Famusov, meets with him in the doorway, thereby puzzling the master. Paul begins to swear, but he is somehow reassured.
When Sophia and Lisa are left alone, the young lady tells her about how they had a good time with Molchalin. The maid advises the lady to look at the wealthy Colonel Skalozub, but the noble lady flatly refuses. After that, Lisa reminds her of Chatsky, the former lover of Famusov’s daughter, but she says that they were connected only by children's friendship.
Meanwhile, Alexander Chatsky himself arrives. During a conversation with Sophia, he accidentally insults Molchalin, which offends his beloved very much. Later, talking with Pavel Famusov, the guest makes it clear that he wants to marry Sofya Pavlovna. The young lady’s father tells him that first you need to serve (earn extra money). The young man scares him with his fervent speeches against all those ideals to which the master of the house is devoted: against careerism, serfdom and the hypocrisy of the world.
Colonel Skalozub comes to visit the Famusovs, to whom Mr. recommends Chatsky, which even offends the young man a little. During their conversation, a worried Sophia bursts into the room - it turns out that Molchalin fell from his horse. By the reaction of the girl to this situation, the hero begins to guess everything, but still refuses to believe it.
In the evening, more guests arrive at the Famusovs' house. Sophia avenges Molchalin to her childhood friend, deciding to start a rumor about his insanity. This rumor quickly spreads around the house, and, like a spoiled phone in the game, various new details are added.
In the hallway, Molchalin follows Lisa, where she confesses her feelings. All this is heard by Sophia and Chatsky. A quarrel begins, on the noise of which the servants and Pavel Famusov come running. He swears at his daughter and maid. Chatsky, in turn, was saddened by the fact that he was so blind to everything that was happening. The young man asks for a carriage and says that he will never return here again. Famusova is more concerned about what Princess Marya Aleksevna will say after all this.
