He was even nicknamed "Biryuk", hinting at his indulgence and severity. It was impossible to bribe this man, he was so principled. But the narrator accidentally fell into the den of this evil forester, and what did he see? Little children whom the unfaithful wife left for him, who left for a better life with the tradesman. All of them huddled in a wretched hut, consisting of one room. Naturally, the man became hardened and ceased to believe people, because he was betrayed by the closest woman. However, upon closer inspection, his kindness still did not disappear: he helped the traveler, released a thief caught off guard at his request. He just hid his kind heart deeply so that he would not be crushed again. This means that one who seems cruel may not be cruel at all, but simply hides his kindness so as not to be deceived again.
Thus, good people can change for the worse if they are very painfully hurt by those from whom they did not expect this. A stab in the back will cause a person to lose all trust, without which it is impossible to do good. But even if such a transformation has taken place, do not put an end to the personality: perhaps she just needs time to open herself to the world again from her best side.
