(481 words) “Hero of our time” is an extremely amazing novel in which the destinies of people are incredibly intertwined. Sometimes intersections occur with a break of several years and in the most unexpected places, but they are always extremely important. Fateful. Fatalistic. Mikhail Yuryevich even gives minor characters with a light author’s hand memorable trials or life features. What about the fate of the protagonist - Grigory Pechorin?
Pechorin, at first glance, is a typical young officer, not standing out from the crowd. Rather, he would be like that if it were not for his eyes, which immediately betrayed the nature in him cold, sad and deeply immersed in itself. Maxim Maksimych immediately notes that such eyes happen only to those who never truly, with their souls, laugh, even if they smile. Later, recognizing Pechorin closer, Maxim Maksimych becomes attached to him, but still calls him a strange fellow. For him, Pechorin is a mysterious man who "can remain silent for hours, or maybe be the soul of the company."
Both sides of the character of Gregory are easily explained. He can remain silent for hours, because he has high intelligence and often reflects on philosophical topics: life and death, destiny, the mission with which a person comes into the world. In addition, it is known that the high society bored him, so a young man can be alone for a long time even in noisy places, because he is so thoughtful that he lets everything pass by his ears.
However, this is not always the case. Pechorin, in addition to intellectual thoughts, has another entertainment - managing the fate of others. That is why sometimes, in moments of especially desperate boredom from the monotony of life, he goes “into the people” and learns many new tidings, some of which throughout the book serve him throughout the novel.
Alas, we cannot know for what reasons Pechorin became such a person. Many argue whether he was frank in his “confession” to Princess Mary, where he said that “he had become a moral cripple,” since no one accepted his love and kindness. According to Gregory, he had to learn to hate. He says this so confidently that there is no doubt that at least part of his words are true. In this episode, he looks like a desperate man, from whom a cry of the soul escaped, but which he even disguised himself as another psychological trap for poor Meri.
What we have? Mikhail Yuryevich made Grigory Pechorin a very intelligent, handsome and penetrating young man. Although he is not a speaker, but a manipulator, he possessed this skill perfectly. Only now all these qualities, no matter how good or bad they were, did not save the hero from the tragic end. All his life Pechorin was looking for death in roads, wars and duels. He was so indifferent and even good-natured to death that because of this he didn’t take care of himself at all and that is why he almost died because of his passion for smuggling.
Alas, each person who has not found himself in society and in life, first asks for a gift in the form of people close to him in spirit. And after that he finds what he has to. Pechorin achieved his goal and found his death. This is the only gift that fate deigned to give him.
