: Mother left her son for the night in a rural hospital. One of the patients died at night, the boy got scared, ran away, wandered around the hospital for a long time and lost consciousness from fear on the porch of the doctor’s house.
The road to the hospital was a long one. Pashka with his mother walked either through a sloping field or through an autumn forest.
Pashka Galaktionov - a village boy, seven years old, illiterate, cowardly, has long been sick
When he reached the hospital, he waited a long time in the damp canopy for the door to be opened, and then he waited his turn in the waiting room, full of patients. Pashka silently examined people, and much seemed to him strange and funny, for example, a guy jumping on one leg like a sparrow. Finally, her mother brought Pasha to the paramedic to make an appointment with the doctor.
Dr. Ivan Nikolaevich came.
Ivan Nikolaevich - doctor, strict and angry, treats the boy kindly and seems funny to him
The acceptance has begun. The doctor sat in his room and called out the patients in turn. Every now and then from the room we heard piercing screams, children's crying or the doctor's angry exclamations ...
Soon Pasha was called. The doctor examined his elbow and scolded Pashkin’s mother for a long time because she “rotted the guy’s hand”. It turned out that Pashka had a joint disease and needed surgery. The doctor friendly slapped the boy on the shoulder and offered to stay in the hospital for the night, promising to show him a living fox, take him away, catch siskins and buy candy at the fair.
Pashka thought that the cheerful Ivan Nikolaevich was bored and glad to be with the company, the boy had never been to the fair, so he decided to stay. The boy was put on a real bed with clean linen, pillows and a gray blanket. Pashka "decided that the doctor lives very well."
The paramedic brought Pasha clothes - a shirt, trousers and a gray robe. Dressing, the boy thought, "that in such a suit it would be nice to walk around the village." He imagined with what envy the familiar guys would look at him.
Then they brought a hearty dinner - cabbage soup with meat, roast with potatoes and a lot of bread. Pashka ate the fried meat for the first time and tried to stretch the pleasure, but ate the whole bread, not realizing that he would leave a piece for evening tea.
After eating, the boy went for a walk. In the next chamber he saw a man who nodded measuredly and waved his hand. At first it seemed ridiculous to Pashka, but then, looking at the person’s face, he realized that he was very ill, and he felt terrible.
Returning to his place, Pashka began to wait for the doctor to go catching squirrels or go to the fair, but he still did not go. Outside the windows it got dark, the boy began to remember about the house and mother, he felt sad and imperceptibly fell asleep.
Pashka woke up fuss in the next room. A patient died there, lying all day with a rubber bladder on his head. The boy got scared and rushed out of the hospital.
He had one thought - to run and run! He did not know the road, but he was sure that if he ran, he would certainly find himself at home with his mother.
He managed to find a way out. He ran to the hospital, came across a cemetery, got scared even more and rushed back.Going past the hospital buildings, distraught with fear, Pashka saw a brightly lit window, next to which was a high porch and a door with a white plaque.
Running up to the porch, Pashka saw a doctor in the window, laughed with happiness, extended his hands to him and without feeling fell down the steps. Having regained consciousness, Pashka saw that it was already light, and heard Ivan Nikolayevich's familiar voice - he good-naturedly scolded the fugitive and said that "there was no one to beat him."
